January Wrap Up

Like I said in my previous post, I got more stitching done in Vail than I thought I would.  This is what I worked on:

Red House in Winter by LHN

I worked on Red House on the plane.  I find the less colour changes the better while in such a confined space.  I've been bringing nail clippers for cutting threads when I fly.  I told my hubby that the next time we go I'm bringing my Little Gem scissors by Kelmscott and see what happens.  They're not a huge investment so I'm willing to risk getting them taken away.  What have your experiences been with travelling with your stitching?

Travelling Stitcher by LHN

I started it as a SAL but didn't get very far :)  The fabric was really bugging me at the time.  It was so stiff and scratchy.  As you can see I've gotten over that.  Anyone know of a tutorial for sewing the stitching onto the pouch?

Progress as of February 11, 2010

Now this really frosts me:

I started in the middle of the design (like it says to) on the fabric supplied with the kit.  Look at all the waste!!!!!  I still have the cover for the needlebook to stitch but still!  Ridiculous!

I got the most amazing news on Saturday!  I'm so excited I can hardly contain myself...I won this:

It's the chart and all the DMC for Christmas at Hawk Run Hollow by Carriage House Samplers!!!!  I won it from Carol at Stitching Dreams for Birthday giveaway.  I've ordered a cut of fabric for it heard from Carol that she has already popped it in the mail!  When I'm done stitching all Carol asks is that I have a giveaway for the chart too ;)  Check out Carol's blog, she always has great posts and amazing stitching and is a superb finisher!

Have a great week!

Congratulations on your win...what a spectacular haul!!

Loving all your WIPs...the left over fabric on the LHN piece would make for some sweet small finishes...but, your right, that is a waste of fabric!!

Happy Stitchin'

Congrats on you win! How exciting to win such a cute sampler! As for the waste of the fabric, I was going to suggest making a few smalls but I see Dixie (above) has suggested that already. Great progress on your LHN!
The scratchy fabric I'm not very fond of either. Maybe they starch the linen first?

Congrats on your win! Carol is such a sweet lady.

As far as traveling, I've never had a problem traveling in the US with a small pair of cheapie embroidery scissors. The TSA here allows scissors with a 4" blade or less. Nail clippers will work. I know that those clover cutters are not allowed. Not sure about the rules in Canada though.

And as far as attaching the Traveling Stitcher piece. Mary Kathryn of eHandcrafts did a tutorial on her blog with a similar piece. You can do a search and probably find it. It looks like you have fabric leftover for some smalls now.

What a great win!

I have also traveled with a small pair of scissors. I kept them in my carry-on an stitched during layovers. I would recommend carrying an inexpensive pair though just in case.

I really like the red thread used on the house in Vail. Can you tell me what color and brand of thread you are using?

Beautiful progress. I love your Traveling Stitcher.

Congratulations on an amazing win!

Your red house is coming together beautifully! I'm the same way with my stitching--I can't do anything with major color changes when I'm around a lot of people.

I took the "Little Gems" scissors on the plane to Florida this year with no problems...

So glad CatHRH has found a new home--enjoy it now and don't pressure yourself to finish it within a certain amount of time :)

When travelling on a plane I just make sure to have dental floss in my purse. The "cutter" on the floss box cuts thread as easily as it does the dental floss :)

Congratulations on your new stash win, that's awesome!

(Making a quick note of Joann's dental floss tip above, I love that idea.)

Beautiful stitching. Nice chart and threads that you got from Carol (I love visiting her blog). I'm stitching Christmas of HRH now.

beautiful stitching on your lhn pieces, it is quite a lot of wasted fabric on the travelling stticher one, oh and I do hate the scratchy fabric

Congratulations on your grand giveaway win and all your lovely stitching accomplishments. As for cutting on a plane I have flown with many pairs of regular-sized embroidery scissors with no problem whatsoever (after say 2002 at least). For the year or so after 9-11 I took some of the purpose-built thread cutters which worked just fine. Even with never having a problem, I still refuse to travel with ginghers. :)
